qLegal celebrates the end of a record breaking year

This year, qLegal delivered clinical legal education to more students, worked with more partners and provided legal advice and education to more start-ups than ever before! Ending the year on a high note, students and staff recently celebrated their successes at the mixed-mode qLegal graduation party.
qLegal staff and students enjoyed being part of the annual Queen Mary Festival of Communities on Saturday, 11 June, in Stepney Green. It was an opportunity to engage with Tower Hamlets families about entrepreneurship and qLegal.
qLegal staff and students were delighted to participate in the Queen Mary Festival of Education 2022, to showcase their innovative approach to clinical legal education and celebrate students’ success.
qLegal releases Annual Report 2020-21

The qLegal team is delighted to have released their Annual Report for 2020-21. The year was marked by significant growth and successes, both in the unprecedented number of students joining qLegal programmes and as an organisation consolidating our offerings and partnerships.
The law can be confusing and intimidating to business owners. That’s why qLegal, in partnership with Culture Mile and ArtULTRA, recently launched a pilot project focused on the exchange of knowledge between artists, creatives and lawyers in an attempt to demystify the law for business owners.
In these challenging times, qLegal recognises the importance of extending pro bono legal support to small businesses, including to charities and social enterprises.

We appreciate that these are challenging times for everyone. While we recognise that not everyone can be present in person, we also hear from students who have an expectation that they will engage with us face-to-face.
Unexpected challenges can lead to unexpected opportunities and the pandemic has proved to be a catalyst for new collaborations and fresh approaches to working together
The book features qLegal's first Legal Design project.
qLegal relies on its partnerships with practising solicitors to deliver high-quality, pro bono legal advice and public legal education to entrepreneurs and start-ups. During the 2020-2021 academic year, we had a record number of partnerships with law firms and in-house legal departments.
Graduation ceremony provides a chance to reflect on the skills students develop during their time at qLegal.
Eliza Platts-Mills (qLegal Teaching Fellow) and Emily Wapples (qLegal Project Coordinator) recently attended, and presented at, the worldwide clinical legal education (CLE) conference.
Supporting under-represented founders

Start-ups and founders come in all shapes and sizes and qLegal is delighted to provide support to a wide selection of businesses.
qLegal has been running an Externship programme for several years but the scheme has been turbo charged recently as a result of a new partnership with the Enterprise Lab at Imperial College London.
qLegal was delighted to form a new partnership with Enterprise Nation recently, recognising the shared aims of both organisations to support enterprise.

qLegal helps students develop their professional brand

In October 2020, the qLegal Team launched a new marketing strategy where every qLegal student will complete a profile raising (business development) activity. Students will either undertake a social media takeover on our LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, or create a content piece for the qLegal website, blog or newsletter.
The world of professional services is changing. Law firms no longer offer just legal services as they respond to their clients’ desire for a more integrated package of solutions to their problems. Although, traditionally, advisers are trained to focus on a single area of expertise such as law, finance, business or tech, in reality these areas often sit alongside each other or even overlap.
qLegal, Queen Mary’s pro bono commercial law clinic, has published its annual report which shows that it has almost doubled student numbers and welcomed several new external partners in 2020.
